Name: Luthie Species: Kricketot Gender: Female Ability: Shed Skin Level: 5 Friendship: 5 Moveset: Growl, Bide, Bug Bite Nature: While this Pokemon's foremost love is that of music, she by no means has an aversion to fighting. In the face of danger and adversity she only seems to become more confident and determined to achieve victory. Met: Lab @ lvl 5 Arved and Luthie walked side by side to the outer boundaries of the Fire Fields, both of them totally captivated by the beautiful flowers that gave the area its name. Occasionally Arved would look down at the Kricketot as they were walking, still pleased that he got his first Pokemon that was actually his to train and grow with. While they were on the ferry to go to the mainland, he'd released Luthie from her Pokeball and introduced himself. Although she was wary at first, Arved could tell the Pokemon was already slowly warming up to him, or at least he hoped so from the happy whistling sound she was currently making. Unfortunately for Arved, Luthie was actually still pretty indifferent about her new trainer and was just enjoying whistling as she walked down the path. Although, she was already excited about all the new sights she'd seen since leaving the Lab and hoped that continuing the go with Arved would yield more exposure to new things. Now that he'd finally reached the Fire Fields, Arved remembered his goal of finding Fire and Ground types for the Lab. To be honest, from the name he'd been expecting the Fire Fields to be barren ground that was covered with patches of fire so the flowers were a pleasant surprise. He just hoped that he wouldn't have too much trouble finding one considering that he was finding flowers instead of fire.

As soon as Arved entered the Fire Fields, he was accosted by a garishly-garbed man. "Hello, hello! Are you here to see the show? Of course you are! I am Flambé the Performer, and I will amaze you! Come on, step right up and watch!" He grinned and practically dragged Arved along, not letting him get a word in edgewise. Soon the young man found himself surrounded by the performer and his Pokemon, mostly Fire-types. "Yes, yes! You're in for a wonderful show!" Flambé clapped and laughed to himself. "Now dance, my pretties! Dance!" The Pokemon began to dance, but ... they didn't look too happy about it. Perhaps they were being forced to perform against their will ... it seemed like they'd been doing this for a while, too. Their routine was certainly well-rehearsed, but they performed it with very little enthusiasm - just going through the motions. "Haha, amazing! My Pokemon are amazing. Aren't they?" He looked at Arved (probably unimpressed) and simply gave a toothy smile; it seemed he was oblivious to the thoughts of anyone besides himself.

Surprised by the clown appearing in front of him, Arved wasn't exactly sure how to react and before he knew it he was being dragged along by the performer. He gave an imploring look at his Kricketot, but the Pokemon just appeared to shrug and followed Arved a few steps behind. After they reached their destination, Arved was surprised to see that there were several Fire types which seemed to belong to the clown. After hearing Flambé's explanation about his dancing Pokemon, Arved internally sighed knowing that it would be rude to just walk away and that he should watch the performance. However, once he actually started watching he quickly noticed that the Pokemon were less than enthusiastic about their dancing.
Arved didn't really know how to react to this, because he didn't like seeing Pokemon unhappy, but at the same time he didn't see anything that made him think that Flambé was actually mistreating his Pokemon, or at least, as of yet. However, the sheer obvious unhappiness of the Pokemon still wanted Arved to say something to the other trainer about his Pokemon. Cautiously, he started to say "Hey, uh, I don't really thi-," when he was suddenly cut off by a sound behind him. He quickly turned around to face the source of the sound and immediately saw that it was coming from Luthie, who was apparently a lot more into the dance than the actual Pokemon that were performing it. The Kricketot started to whistle like she had been as the pair had been walking to the Fire Fields, but this time she was clearly whistling something that fit the tempo of the Pokemon's dance. Still not sure exactly how he wanted to act, Arved decided to wait to air his grievances until he saw how Flambé and his Pokemon reacted to this addition to their show.

[Sorry for the wait :x]
Predictably enough, Flambé did not seem to hear a word that Arved was saying - he simply made a shushing motion and pointed toward the dancing Pokemon, imploring the young man to watch their performance. It was well choreographed, but still ... those Pokemon just weren't into it.
Then the Kricketot started whistling, and the clown froze dead in his tracks. The Pokemon kept dancing, though - they hadn't realized that he had stopped watching, and was instead staring right at the Bug-type.
"Tha-that's... beautiful!" He applauded wildly. "Amazing! Really, it is! I... I must know how you taught her to do that!... or, actually, I suppose I don't need to know... how about letting her join my troupe? She'd make an amazing performer!"
Of course neither Arved nor Luthie looked very thrilled about that idea. The clown just laughed. "Please, please! Let me buy your Kricketot! I promise, I'll pay well!"

Completely thrown off guard by Flambé's question, Arved hesitated for a second before he falteringly responded to his question. "You want to... buy Luthie? Are you kidding me?" While he hadn't gotten a good chance to interact with his new Pokemon, he was already started to get attached to the Bug type and certainly didn't want to give her up. In addition to that, he was completely against the very idea of people selling their Pokemon, especially if they had already spent some time with their trainer and had gotten to know them. In fact the more that Arved thought about it, the more his emotions started to shift from being confused to anger. "I suppose you bought all of your other Pokemon too. I mean, they don't look particularly happy and you don't look like much of a trainer." However, as soon as he was done saying it, Arved calmed down slightly and actually started to feel guilty about it, as he wasn't entirely sure if his accusations were true. Hoping that his assumptions were correct, he waited for the clown to react.
Meanwhile, Luthie was still just standing next to Arved whistling, but she was clearly picking up on her new trainer's emotions and her whistling started to get slightly more shrill as Arved was talking. After all, she didn't really her new trainer yet, but so far he hadn't given her any reason to distrust him, and in addition she hadn't exactly been any more in favor of Flambé's offer than Arved had been.

((mind if i cut in~?)) The clown puffed out his cheeks and scowled, leaning forward with his hands on his hips in such a way that the long "ears" of his hat dangled into his face. "How dare you!" He outstretched a finger to poke at Arved's chest with fervor. "Just because I bought them doesn't mean they don't love me, and performing! And your 'Luthie' would be the same if you would only cooperate! Stubborn." Flambé huffed with irritation, leaning back to cross his arms and pout.
His Pokemon had finally stopped their performance, faltering now that their trainer had turned his attention away from them; they had no love for the routine, clearly, and if they weren't being watched they had no reason to continue it. They glanced at each other warily, unsure of what their trainer would do now but knowing for sure they probably wouldn't like it.
The clown was irritated still, but he also appeared to be thinking to himself, and after a moment he straightened up and smiled slyly at Arved. "Okay, how about this, then! I'll battle you for your Kricketot. But to make this fair, if you win the battle, you get the Pokemon you battled against. You can even pick which you fight. Deal?" He made a grand gesture towards his troupe of performers, clearly confident that any one of them could wipe the floor with Luthie and Arved. Perhaps he was just cocky due to the type advantage, or maybe he really did believe in the individual merit of each Pokemon in his entourage. Regardless, the four of them looked quite startled. They knew their trainer was not particularly close to them, but was he really so willing to give one of them away? Why not let them all leave if he was setting one free?
Each one looked pleadingly at Arved, desperate for a way out. The clown had said that Arved could pick whichever he wanted, so in theory he could maybe pick more than one, but... if he took too much of a gamble he ran the risk of losing Luthie.

Arved completely ignored the clown's attempt at poking him and just stood there, glad that his assumption was correct and he hadn't accused a normal trainer of buying their Pokemon. He then just waited for Flambé to finish his initial rant with some indifference as he knew there was no point arguing, after all someone who thinks of Pokemon as he does can never get their mind changed. He did notice that Flambé's Pokemon finally stopped their routine and likewise Luthi stopped her whistling, picking up on the fact that something was probably going to happen. Arved on the other hand, was completely unprepared as to what the clown might do and his challenge caught him completely off-guard. However, Arved's surprise quickly turned into glee as he realized how perfectly it had turned out for him. Not only did he have the opportunity to put the clown in his place, he could also help out the man's Pokemon who were clearly unhappy with their current owner. Now he just needed to figure out which Pokemon to fight and, as a result, help. He hated the fact that he actually needed to choose which to go with and which he would effectively force to stay with Flambé. Judging from how his Pokemon looked, they probably weren't high enough level to know any Fire attacks, but he couldn't tell for sure. He quickly decided that two would be the magic number of Pokemon to fight since he wasn't sure Luthie could stand up against any more than that and he wasn't willing to risk it. Having made his choice, Arved smiled and said decisively to the clown "Alright, I accept your terms. And for my opponent, I chose Castform.... and Charmander." His decision had been finalized by the fact that he just not know as much about Pokemon from Kalos and wasn't entirely sure what they were capable of. Although she wasn't thrilled about the fact that Arved had agreed to fight against the other trainer with her ownership on the line, she was able to accept that it was for a good cause. On the other hand she certainly wasn't pleased about the fact that her own trainer had stacked the odds against her in this situation, but there wasn't much she could do about that either and obviously Arved would have had a plan to risk it like this. Having decided that she would go along with the battle, Luthi moved from her position besides Arved and went to a few feet in front of him. Unfortunately, Arved was so prepared to fight Flambé that he hadn't even considered the fact that Luthi might be opposed to the battle so he didn't even say anything to the Bug type in terms of thanks. Instead he once again spoke to Flambé saying "Now since we're outnumbered, I don't think you'll have any problem with us going first." He then shifted his gaze down to Luthi adding, "I think a good Growl will do nicely to start this off." The Kricketot gave a small nod and then started to whistle out a soothing melody. Luthi used Growl!

((Arved finds: Black Box)) Flambé grinned wide at Arved's agreement to his terms, feeling confident that whichever Pokemon he picked would defeat the little Kricketot with ease. He faltered, however, when Arved chose two Pokemon to battle against. "Both?" he sputtered, surprised. After a moment he burst into laughter, clapping his hands and doing a delighted twirl. "Both it is! It's your funeral, my friend!" He didn't think that Arved would be so foolish as to stack the odds against himself, but if he was really so eager to give away his Pokemon Flambé would not complain.
Castform and Charmander turned to their unpicked teammates with guilty expressions, quietly and briefly communicating with the Fletchling and Litleo, who looked forlorn. The bird and cat seemed to be trying to encourage their friends and wish them luck, though, because Castform and Charmander returned their attention to Arved and moved forward, ready to battle. They didn't look very excited that they had to lose to secure their own freedom, since they felt compelled to try their best anyway. Flambé was leering over their shoulders expectantly, so they knew they couldn't just throw the match.
Castform (Sunny), F, lvl 5, Forecast Tackle, Sunny Day Charmander, M, lvl 5, Blaze Scratch, Growl, Belly Drum The pair flinched back from the sound of Luthi's song, feeling weaker as they listened to it. "Beautiful," praised Flambé, sighing dreamily and swaying to the tempo of the melody. Then, with a smirk, he snapped back to attention. "But pointless! Charmander, use Belly Drum and show her what a Growl attack is really like! Castform, use Sunny Day, then Tackle!"
All they could do in response to a direct order was obey. The Charmander puffed out his chest and began to smack his belly loudly, playing it like a drum as he released a roaring but vaguely musical Growl attack of his own. He winced and whimpered a little at the self-inflicted pain, but by the time it was done he looked fired up and invigorated, Luthi's Growl attack all but forgotten. Meanwhile, the Castform spun and danced, and the sun brightened even more as she did so; though she had been using Sunny Day during the dance routine, it never hurt to do one more, right? Once her dance was finished, she twirled around so she was facing Luthi, and she launched herself forward with a full-body Tackle.
Castform and Charmander are affected by Growl! Their attack stat lowers. Charmander uses Belly Drum! His attack stat can't go any higher, but he loses half his health. Charmander uses Growl! Castform uses Sunny Day! Castform uses Tackle!

To be honest, Arved had been expecting Flambé to not be very good at battling, but this was depressingly bad. While it was true that low level Pokemon can't exactly do a lot, the clown had both of his Pokemon do something that clearly had no effect. First off, Castform had already transformed into its Fire form so it was obviously already sunny enough and there was no need for a Sunny Day. Secondly, he had his Charmander use Growl which does absolutely nothing to hinder a Kricketot's signature move. Speaking of, Arved realized he hadn't yet actually given the command to use the attack, so he called out "Luthi, Bide!"Hearing the order, Luthi immediately hunkered down and stood perfectly still, waiting for the Castform to make contact. When the attack did connect, Luthi slid backwards an inch from the impact and made a sharp whistling sound, but otherwise made reaction. Instead she continued to just stand there, clearly waiting for Flambé's Pokemon to make the next move. Luthi used Bide! Luthi took damage from Castform's Tackle attack!
