CURRENT PARTY: Empty! SPIEL AUF : Game On! Gertie was just about beside herself with glee and excitement; her plane was finally getting ready to touch down on Pumice Rock, and not only would she be able to stretch her legs at last, but she would be able to make a break for the lab and receive her first companion on her journey! It was regrettable that Gabi couldn't have come along with her, and she took a moment to silently appreciate all the times he had been there for her in the past. Still, she wanted to do this the traditional way, starting from scratch and working her way up. Gabi had understood, although he had been understandably grouchy that he wouldn't get to see any of this new, foreign region with his trainer.
The landing was a little bumpy, but Gertie was all smiles by the time the doors opened to let passengers free. She grabbed her bag and launched out of the plane like a rocket, firing a thank-you at the pilot and crew as she fled. Pokemon, Pokemon, Pokemon! She was going to get a brand new Pokemon! Even with her heavy backpack slung over her shoulders she felt light as a feather, and she zipped along with impressive speed all the way out of the airport and into Pumice Rock proper. The best part? No one gave her so much as a sideways glance; she was not the only Pokemorph here. That alone was priceless. Her heart swelled with feelings of belonging, and she felt she could not locate and reach the lab fast enough. This was going to be so great.
Gertie may have been the adventurous sort, but a navigator she was not. She did not have a map of the area and her phone had run out of battery life by the end of the flight, so it took several minutes of wandering before she flagged down a passing stranger to ask directions. Her accent and broken English, not her Pokemorph features, were what earned her strange looks, and that was just about cause for celebration in Gertie's book. Even better, the man was easily able to direct her to the lab once he figured out what she wanted, and she bolted for the building with unreserved glee.
She made haste through the front door, at last skidding to a halt in front of the reception desk. Her sneakers squeaked against the tile and her skin glistened with sweat; though it was winter in the Decona region, it was still far warmer than Gertie was used to, and she had sprinted the entire way there. "Halloo-oo!" she crooned, beaming at the receptionist even as she sucked in deep, panting breaths. Her striped ears were perked and her long tail swayed back and forth, the orb at the end glowing brightly. "I am here for Pokemon, please!"

At this early hour, the lab was almost empty, and the receptionist at the desk was fast asleep. He looked to be a young man of university-attending age, an observation that would be confirmed by seeing the pile of homework he was slumped over. He also had no visible Pokemorph features. "Halloo-oo!" said a singsong voice, and the man slowly stirred from his slumber. He looked up to see a girl with the obvious features of a Flaaffy. For a moment he thought this a dream and thought himself still asleep, until he remembered where he was. No doubt this girl had received one of Professor Willow's injections. "I am here for Pokemon, please!" she said, and he nodded. "Alright, now how do I do this... the doc told me, but I forgot... oh, right, starters.exe..." After a moment of muttering to himself, an audible click was heard, and then: "There we go! Your starter choices are... Cubchoo, Spearow, Froakie, Igglybuff or Bidoof." | | | | | Name: ? Gertie smiled and tilted her head at the receptionist, who seemed quite groggy from his nap. How could he even think about napping at a time like this? She was getting a Pokemon! Though the man was moving in what felt like slow-motion Gertie waited as patiently as she could manage, which involved a lot of foot-tapping and then leaning over the desk so that she could glimpse the screen for a moment. When at last her options became available, she "ooh"ed at the images and statistics displayed on the screen for each Pokemon, then leaned back again to give the receptionist a little bit of breathing room while she pondered over the choices.
It was lucky that the program generated images as well, since she was not tremendously familiar with the English names of most of the Pokemon. "Petznief," she murmured to herself, with Cubchoo being the most familiar out of the bunch; her native region was quite cold year-round, so ice-types were commonplace there. Bidoof, too, was easy enough, as were Spearow and Igglybuff after a little more thought. "Bidiza, Habitak... Fluffeluff..." It was the one remaining Pokemon that gave her pause. Froakie? She frowned and leaned over the desk again to get a better look at the image. Froakie. It looked cute, but she had never heard of that one before. The thought of training a completely foreign Pokemon was exciting, but...
Well, she kept being drawn back to that Petznief -- Cubchoo. She loved the little bears; she had played around with wild ones back home sometimes, although it had driven her parents mad with worry since the mother Siberio -- that is, Beartic -- was never far from her cub. Now the thought of having a big, strong Siberio at her side was tremendously enticing. A big bird like Fearow would be fun perhaps, or something cute like Wigglytuff or Bibarel, but no, Gertie felt pretty strongly about which she wanted.
"Petznief -- um, Cubchoo, please! Danke!" She rested her elbows on the counter and propped up her chin on her palms, beaming wide at the receptionist.

The young man smiled at Gertie, finding her honestly rather cute... if a bit strange. Petznief? Bidiza, Habitak, Fluffeluff? Those sounded vaguely like names for Pokemon, but they were names he'd never heard... perhaps she was from some far-away region where familiar Pokemon had been given unfamiliar names? And indeed, that thought was confirmed when the young woman gave her answer: Petznief - or rather, Cubchoo.
"Alright, stay right there - I'll be back." He made his best attempt to smile, then disappeared into the expansive Pokeball repository. There was a Cubchoo in here somewhere; somewhere among hundreds of other Pokemon... probably up on the top shelf. "I'm gonna need a ladder..."
Several minutes passed before he returned, huffing and puffing - but at least his search had been fruitful. In his hands were a Pokeball and a small bag of other items. "Here you... go. One Cubchoo and... one Starter Pack." He took a quick peek into the bag... "Potions, balls, TM case, Pokedex... s'all there. Alright... any questions?"

Gertie was practically vibrating as she waited for the aide to return; she had to pace around the lobby to occupy herself, otherwise she thought she might overheat and discharge electricity, and she didn't want to fry the poor guy's computer. As it was, the orb on her tail was shining brightly with stored electricity, and her wooly mane was sparking a little. It took a some doing to keep it all contained.
Several minutes felt like an eternity to Gertie. When at last the receptionist made a reappearance, huffing and puffing and carrying some items, the Flaaffy girl bleated with delight and rushed back over to the desk. "Sie haben sie! Yay!" She bounced on her heels and grinned so wide it must have ached a little, not that she paid any mind to that. "Danke! Danke schön! I will be good with them! Thank you!" She grabbed for the bag and the Pokeball, gleefully clipping her Cubchoo's capsule to a magnetic bracelet around her right wrist.
So caught up in her jubilation was she that she almost didn't hear the receptionist ask her a question. Her ears twitched and she looked up from admiring the new "charm" on her bracelet, then tilted her head. "Questions... fragen..." Pensive, she drummed her fingers against the reception desk and hummed thoughtfully. "Do you have map? She would be very good!" If she got her hands on a map, she could shove her new items into her backpack and get a move-on while formulating a plan of attack. Where in the region would be the best place to challenge first? "Oh! Is there grass... um... building? Grass type?" With an ice-type starter, a grass-type gym did seem like it'd be the easiest to conquer.

"A map! Right. Man, we really should make those standard-issue." The young man chuckled to himself. Thankfully he wouldn't have to go back into the repository for that; they kept the maps right inside the reception desk. He could just reach in and get one.
Except they were all out.
"...dammit. I'll be right back. Again." He sighed and went back into the repository.
Another handful of minutes passed before he returned from his second harrowing journey. He just hoped that Gertie would politely ignore the Spinarak webs in his hair.
"Right, so here's a map of the region. There's a list of all the gyms on there, too. As you can see, the Grass gym is in Terren City - but in Decona you can pretty much do things in any order, so feel free to explore and enjoy the region." Only by reminding himself to be brave for the new arrival did he manage another smile. "Well then. Anything else~?"

Gertie laughed when the man cursed and rose from his seat once more; she didn't mean to cause him trouble, of course, but she did want the map and his frustration was amusing. With her Pokemon in hand, now she was no longer in any particular hurry to get a move on. However, she was very eager to meet her new partner, and while she waited for the receptionist's return she unclipped the Pokeball from her bracelet once more so that she could let the Pokemon out. A bright light burst from the capsule and formed a shape, which then solidified into a Cubchoo. The bear snuffled and peered up at Gertie.
"Hallo, kleiner freund! Oh, you are very cute!" She stooped down to the bear's level, smiling wide. "I am Gertie! Do you have name?"
+No,+ replied the Cubchoo, shaking his head. He frowned a little, eyeing Gertie warily and wiping at his drippy nose before crossing his arms across his chest. +You talk funny.+
Gertie laughed and ruffled the fur atop his head. "No, you do, albern!"
+Is Albern my name...?+
The Pokemorph made a "pffft" sound and shook her head. "Nein, nein! It means... silly, like, funny? No, you are... hmm. Bjorn! Do you like?" The bear shrugged bashfully, and Gertie was still grinning when the receptionist returned with her map. "Ah! Danke!" She giggled at the cobwebs in his hair but made no comment, primarily because she did not know the English word for cobweb, plus he was giving her some valuable information about the process of challenging gyms. As he finished his explanation, she looked over the map and eagerly took in the general picture, happy to have this visual guide of the region. Words were nice, of course, but if she didn't understand half of those words... well, they weren't much good. This was handy.
"Nein," Gertie chirped, smiling warmly at the receptionist. "No questions. Thank you, mister! Auf wiedersehen!" Wiggling her ears and tail with excitement, she hastily rolled back up the map in her hands, and then extended her arms out to the Cubchoo at her feet. After a moment's pause, Bjorn shuffled towards her and allowed her to scoop him up; he even had the presence of mind to sniff a rather sizable glob of snot back into his nose so that Gertie wouldn't get slimed. She giggled at him and kissed the crown of his head, then turned one final grin at the receptionist before zipping out of the lab as quickly as she'd come. Let the journey begin!
