Graucan Port was one of the first settlements made on Deconian soil. Though the north-eastern town so infamous for its unsavory seafaring inhabitants does predate Graucan, the southern port is now nearly double the size of Marit Bay and has a booming economy bolstered by trade with other nations. Banking has become the chief industry of Decona, and many of the banks which are outsourced here have large skyscraper headquarters located throughout the city, as well as smaller branches scattered throughout the region. Other big businesses are similarly situated in Decona and in Graucan Port, and ads for every imaginable product and celebrity light up the massive screens and electronic billboards which color the tall gray buildings.
Though the ads remain lit at night, of course, neon signs and the glow from clubs and late-night dives are what really bring color to Graucan once the sun has gone down. The inhabitants of the city may be business oriented, but after a long day at work, they certainly know how to unwind. Dance clubs, bars, and casinos are popular nighttime attractions. Slightly more sophisticated are the restaurants which serve all kinds of delicious food from all around the world; you name it, there is probably a phenomenal restaurant to be found in Graucan which makes it. And, of course, there is always the nearby boardwalk, which is a popular vacation spot for those who can't get away long enough to take a cruise.
Exercise facilities and pools are common spots for trainers to visit, and there are numerous hotels and Pokemon Centers in the city for traveling trainers to stay at for a night or two. Massive shopping facilities and malls are great for stocking up one's backpack with anything one might need while on the road, and of course, there is the Graucan Gym. The gym leader, Arina, is a rather frivolous and irresponsible woman, and she is almost never at her gym; instead, she spends the majority of her time cruising and relaxing at Lunita Island. Still, a visit to the gym may behoove any curious or battle-ready trainers, since water-type trainers love the huge pool there and will eagerly battle any challengers. Just be sure to watch out for civilians swimming in the water, because such a great public pool area is almost always crowded!
Graucan is often the first stop for visitors to the region who came in by boat, although less frequently visitors will arrive by airplane to the small airport on Pumice Rock. From Graucan Port, travelers have several ways they could go. To the left is the boardwalk, and even further to the left is the great underground city of Terren. On the right is the wind-generated power plant which fuels all the frivolities of Graucan Port, as well as most of Decona. Further still to the right are the Fire Fields which surround Ambus Town. Then, of course, one can either head north and take a boat over the lake to the lab or elsewhere in the region, or can head south and catch a ship to Lunita Island.
OTHER TIDBITS:
- Graucan Port has an extremely large working-class population, and even the wealthy upper-class of Graucan have typically worked their way up to where they are. Hard work and a down-to-earth, layman's approach to life are greatly valued traits to many Graucan Port natives. Those who were born into money or who choose not to work are typically scoffed at.
- Pokemorphs are not thought very highly of in Graucan Port. Rarely, a human purist may even get openly hostile with a Pokemorph.
- Though Graucan is a highly populated city, there is a strong sense of community within city neighborhoods and there are numerous local "celebrities" who are widely-recognized. Arina, the gym leader, is of course one figure that everyone from Graucan can name and recognize on sight, although she is rather infamous for being a slacker and for trying very hard to present herself as high-class, which most Graucan natives don't care for. Imogen Glass is another notorious figure, for she leads a large biker gang that roams around the city; however, more people look up to her than they do to Arina, because Gene and her gang may be known for getting into the occasional bar fight or street brawl, but they are much better known for acting as a sort of peoples' militia and protecting folks who find themselves being harassed or attacked on the streets at night.
