She was on the island now, a ways from her home. Shintara had been on the road for around two weeks and already her clothes were a tad shabby, she needed a bath but that was not her main concern. By now her main concern was going to the lab to receive a Pokemon and that was where her mind was leading her, away from the port and the strong smell of salt. It itched her nose, and her ears twitched as she gave one last full glance back at the ferry-man who was now standing by the dock near his boat smoking a cigarette. He was a Pokemorph but she hadn't wished to talk to him, and in fact felt somewhat uncertain of talking to anyone. A paranoia had built itself upon her skin and she quite planned to get to the lab in peace.
Then not far she was approached by a man handing out pamphlets to passerbys heading into the city. He aggressively tried to hand the Mightyena 'morph one of them as she tried to go by, urging her to take one for several steps, but then she suddenly growled at him and, with a surprised face, fell back. She did not truly mean to do so, and felt rather bad about herself, and quickened her pace into the heart of the city where the laboratory was. She adjusted her baseball cap so that it shadowed her face a little more, but looked up at a sign that pointed into the direction of the lab. The girl smiled with renewed joy, after losing some of her anger upon the paper-man.
Eventually she came to the laboratory and its splendor, feeling a splurge of happiness that she had gotten here. She forgot the past scuffle with her family, and the fact that she was now, technically, homeless. Now she focused on what was ahead of her, which was adventure with Pokemon. The Decona region, it seemed to her, was changing; not easily, but the change was there. It was apparent in the sudden abundance of 'morphs. With Pokemon, she would be able to experience it first-hand. Maybe even play a part in the forefront. She rasped her knuckles on the lab door first, then entered the foreroom. She put her hands on her hips and scrutinized, but she didn't feel any need to go very far into the room. Nor did she feel the need, whereas she loved to make havoc, to touch anything. "Hello!" She said loudly, craning her neck to look down a hallway.

((be sure to link to your PC thread in your signature as well as your profile! the PC thread is extra important since it'll have her pokemon info in it.)) The doors to the lab opened automatically before Shintara's knuckles could find purchase, allowing her in with no trouble. This left her alone in the lobby with only the company of the room's strange but upscale decor and an apparently unmanned front desk with a computer sitting on top. The computer's monitor was turned to face visitors, but it was black and dead at the moment.
Then, when the Pokemorph called out, the screen lit up, and the computer began to speak. "Welcome to the Fully Automated Intelligent... yatta yatta yatta." Though the voice which intoned from the computer speakers was flat and robotic, it somehow still managed to sound bored and unimpressed. "Experimental system, I am a lab receptionist, email feed back to DUMB ZOROARK JERK AT STUPID DOT COM, etcetera." How... interesting. "This system has detected that you have no Pokemon, and thus has determined that you are here for a starter. If this is incorrect, please say GO BACK." Things seemed back on track, and after a pause it continued, "Fine. Just a second."
A gentle hum from the computer's fans could be heard, but otherwise the machine was quiet as it "thought" about which Pokemon were currently available to be given out. Then, with a cheerful "ding!" five images appeared on the monitor. "Hurry up and choose." What a demanding contraption this computer was...!

What a surprise; her body all seemed to twitch upwards at once with alertness, the computers glowing screen the main focus of her attention now. She was faced with wonder at this technology and listened with a perturbed expression as it spoke in its zeal. Her breathing became heavy, suddenly uncomfortable; her skin itched and she felt like running. The air running through her mouth made a low panting noise. The room felt like too much, like there was an overwhelming buzzing that disappeared when she tried to focus on it. "Maybe this is too much," she doubted under her breath.
The computer met the end of its spiel. Now Shintara's face was scrunched with incredulity as she took a hesitant step toward the front desk, for she thought she might have to touch the computer. She thought this was odd, and considered nothing more would happen if not for the promising hum of the fans. Still a ways from the computer she stood, but leaned forward with piqued interest; her black canid ears and tail eagerly postured. Once more she startled at the sudden noise, the "ding," and cautiously looked to and fro around her for some being, yet still there was no one. She was met with the choices on the screen and the impatient ushering of this insentient device.
She quickly decided. "Absol," she proclaimed to the monitor.

"Surprise, surprise," the computer droned. "Everyone always wants the Absol. Fine. Just a moment." Though the machine fell silent for a few moments, it suddenly began to make a loud, grating alarm sound that rang all throughout the lobby. This sound persisted for approximately two minutes before a tall man with wide, icy-blue eyes burst out of one of the back rooms and made a beeline for the front desk. The first thing he did was smack the computer tower until the speakers ceased their awful racket and instead intoned "you big bully." Then he groaned, sighed, scraped a hand through his hair with fingers tipped by red claws, and turned his attention to Shintara.
"Sorry," he said. "Stupid thing is still experimental. I tried buffing its AI programming but... I think I just made it into an obnoxious rebellious teenager."
"This system resents that," replied the computer. "And also resents you."
"See?" The man rolled his eyes. "Ugh. Okay, forget it. I'll get your starter, okay?" He turned to the screen for a moment and nodded. "Absol. No problem. Be right back." Looking resigned to his fate, the aide hopped the counter and made his way into the back room behind the desk, scratching behind one of his furred, foxlike ears. He was able to find the Absol easily enough, as every filled Pokeball in this storage room was clearly labeled and arranged alphabetically, assuming the Pokemon weren't out and about in their pens. He grabbed the Absol's ball as well as a tiny canvas bag with some starter items in it, and then he shuffled back out into the lobby, shutting the door behind him. "Here." He handed the items across the counter to Shintara, looking like he cared much more about his unruly machine than the new trainer. "Any questions? Need anything else?"

The man who came out surprised Shintara, but the scuffle that broke out between him and the computer put a grin on her face; her eyes widened with mischief. The grin subsided suddenly, however, and she became more thoughtful when she saw his canine attributes. "Yeah..." She murmured absentmindedly as he went off to fetch her starter, her eyes trailing along his ears and claws. "That will be all, thanks for the Pokemon," She expressed her mild gratitude, accepting the canvas bag and the Pokeball. "Good luck with your friend there," Her eyes pointed curiously to the computer. The man seemed too busy, so she would leave hastily. The bag full of supplies hung by its strings from her wrist, the vessel containing her Absol pressed into her palm by her digits that clinked quietly as the tips of her claws connected with the cool metal surface. With a nod, she left through the front doors that she had entered through.
