MIDOCIAN GYM : POISON When one thinks of a poison-type trainer, the gym leader Vaughn is not really what would come to mind; he is a scholarly and friendly young man with a great deal of passion and interest regarding environmental health and ecology. He came to Midocian from Graucan Port due to concerns over the pollution spewing from the city into the lake, and over the course of studying the problem and attempting to communicate with city leaders he discovered that almost nothing at all was being done to correct and regulate the issue. His complaints were falling on deaf ears at best, and at worst, he was met with hostility. Infuriated by the lack of a proper response but unwilling to give up, he began to spend more and more time in the sewers of Midocian studying the qualities of the waste which was being expelled from the pipes and tunnels into Umbil Lake, and it was here that he began to encounter more and more poison-type Pokemon.
Soon enough, he was befriending and then training them, and before he knew it Vaughn was as much a poison-type expert as he was an ecologist and environmentalist. He applied to the Pokemon League and set up a gym down in the sewers in an attempt at drawing national attention to the issues which plague the city, although rest assured that Vaughn is no pushover in a battle just because he formed the gym primarily for the sake of politics. He is very fond of his Pokemon friends and doesn't like to see them get hurt, and he has more than enough smarts to hatch clever strategies to evade incoming damage while draining the life force of his opponents' Pokemon. When he isn't accepting challenges, he can usually be found somewhere in the sewers looking into one thing or another, and because he has a rather good relationship with most of the homeless living in the sewers they are usually happy to point a trainer to wherever he may be, unless they don't like the look of the challenger.
Defeating Vaughn will earn victorious challengers a badge, some money (dependent on number of badges acquired previously), and a TM which teaches Venoshock.
