Name:
Arved A. Helms
Nickname(s)/Alias(es):
N/A
Age:
17
Gender:
Male
Pokemorph?:
No
Appearance:
Although his height isn't quite at giant status, Arved stands fairly tall at a respectable six feet and one inch. His skin tone is light, but he has an almost everlasting tan as he is outside almost constantly. Due to the time he spends outside, Arved maintains his muscular appearance, although it never gets to excessive amounts. His dark brown hair is just long enough where he frequently brushes it out of the way of his brown eyes, although it's more out of habit then actual necessity. He also has a small amount of facial hair, but not enough that it warrants frequently shaving. Overall, these things give him a somewhat rugged appearance, which is slightly at odds with the friendly smile that often flashes across his face.
Most of the time, Arved just wears pants and t shirts of various colors. If it's very cold out, he'll put on the jacket that he carries around in his backpack on, but generally he isn't bothered by the cold. He always has his brown backpack with him that he uses to store all of his extra clothes and items. In terms of footwear, Arved normally wears his hiking boots as opposed to the tennis and running shoes that most trainers wear. He also wears an off-white baseball hat that has a Glacier Badge pinned to it.
Personality:
Arved's defining characteristic is his strong sense of loyalty and duty, which he can sometimes carries to the extreme where they become a fault. Often he's slow to trust new people when he first meets them, but once Arved decides that they're a good person he will immediately do his best to try to help them. In a group situation, Arved generally stays quiet and prefers to listen to other people talk, so he can make judgements calls about how to proceed. However, the opposite is true in a one on one setting, where he's more than happy to express his opinions and talk with the other person in great depth. Overall though, Arved perfers his solitary and sometimes he just needs to be by himself and not have to deal with other people and their problems. Whenever has free time, Arved's go-to pastime is reading, mostly history books or books of ancient lore.
Arved is most comfortable with Ice typed Pokemon, but he is also fairly familiar with Fire, Fighting, and Steel types. He fairs well with all the other types, except for Dark and Ghost, of which he is slightly mistrustful of. While battling, he is very concerning with his Pokemon's well-being to the point where he will call a battle if either one of the Pokemon don't seem to want to fight or if it seems too injured to continue. This shouldn't be confused with weakness though, as Arved is a very competent battler who knows the ins and outs of battle theory.
History:
Arved hails from the northern Johto town of Mahogany, where he was born and spent his entire childhood. As an only child, he received quite a lot of loving attention from his parents, until his mother died of a cancerous disease when he was seven. After she passed away, Arved's father became inconsolable and Arved was more or less looked after by the town as a whole from that day forward.
Pryce, the leader of the Mahogany gym, especially stepped in to help with the raising of the young boy. When he was still little, Pryce mostly just let Arved play with his younger and more friendly Pokemon, but as he aged, Pryce let him watch some of his gym battles so that Arved could learn more about Pokémon. By the time he was ten, Arved would help Pryce practice for his gym battles by using the Fire, Steel, and Fighting Pokémon that Pryce had for that occasion.
When he was thirteen, started Pryce loaning Arved some of his books of the ancient history and lore of the world. By then, Arved's father had fully recovered from his grief and was now once again immersing himself in his son's life, trying to make up for the time he has lost. As he used to be a fairly successful trainer, Arved's father was more than happy to give his son advice on battles and on life in general. Meanwhile, Arved had been pouring over Pryce's books and was now obsessed with the ideas and morals of old.
Shortly after his sixteen birthday, Arved asked his father's permission to go on a journey of his own. Still feeling bad about not being there for a several years, his father was more than happy to give his permission, on one condition: Arved could go as long as he could beat Pryce in a battle. Pryce agreed to go along with the challenge, but to both his and Arved's father's surprise, Arved elected to use Pryce's Ice types in the battle, as opposed to the other Pokémon he was more used to and that had the advantage.
Although it took him several tries, eventually Arved managed to beat Pryce with the gym leader's own Pokémon. On his seventeenth birthday, Arved left Mahogany town and started wandering around the region, not exactly sure what he wanted to do or where he should go. One day while he was in Olivine city, he overheard some sailors talking about a region that had recently opened their league to challenges. Deciding that it would be interesting to explore a new land, Arved bought a boat ticket and headed out to the new region.

Glad that he had correctly identified his ranger, Clay just nodded when Haru said they should be going. As they walked over to the teleporter to bring them to Mt. Oktori, Clay stayed silent, making sure he knew all of the rules of the park. Last thing he wanted to do was get kicked out, especially seeing how he'd already payed.
As they got closer to the mountain, Clay decided to just stay silent, seeing how his ranger was doing the same. However, while they were walking through one of the forests, Haru suddenly ordered his Milktank to Rollout on a tree. Surprised, Clay took a step backward, but he was even more surprised when a Machop fell out of the tree.
"Oi, you better do something about this...." was Haru's only comment regarding his actions and the appearance of the Fighting type. Nodding slightly, Clay grabbed one of the Pokeballs on his belt and pressed the center button twice. The ball immediately grew and then there was a flash of red light as Gallade came out. "Gally, use Aerial Ace on that Machop."
The Gallade just nodded and ran forward toward the other Fighting type. When it got fairly close to Machop, Gally jumped up in the air and then swung one of its arms down to hit the Machop.
