Standing in the elevator as it descended into the mine, Jolene smiled to herself. She'd made her way right to Terren City as soon as she'd heard about its bountiful mines. Who knew what she could find down here. Gold? Crystals? Fossils? Oh, what she wouldn't give to find a fossil...
...her only regret was that she hadn't been allowed to go down by herself. All visitors had to be accompanied by the miners themselves - and she'd even had to pay for the opportunity. But no matter; it would be worth it.
She chuckled as she remembered her favorite teacher's words: "Anthropology is one half sociology, one half archaeology." And that was pretty close to the truth. Often she'd studied the ruins of long-dead cultures, inspecting their left-behind structures and relics to deduce what they'd been like in life. And so, although she was no archaeologist herself, she was no stranger to the idea of digging up some lost treasure.
"Yer eager, huh?" said a man beside her. One of the miners. "Never seen a woman so eager to get dirty."
Jolene laughed. "Dirty is my natural state."
"Good way to be. Reminds ya what really counts."
"Mhm." The woman nodded, and they finished their descent in silence. Before long, they made their way into the mine to begin the dig.
