When the Peck attack met flesh, the Farfetch'd snickered again before leaping back, flapping his wings messily. Feathers and dirt were now just floating about that battle in a rather comedic way, reminiscent of old cartoons. The laughter emanating from his throat was cut short when the heavier Snubbull slammed into him. He choked on his own saliva, coughing and sputtering as he was thrown backwards onto his tail feathers.
He rolled around in the dirt, then sat up straight and rigid, slamming that annoying little leek on the ground over and over again. Tears began rolling down his feathered cheeks, and he opened his beak to allow one long, pathetic 'squaaaaaaaa' to emerge. +It isn't fair!+ He wailed, continuing to abuse the stick. Finally the leek snapped in two under the pressue of his wing. He stared at it on the ground quietly before picking one piece up in each wing, then continuing to wail even louder.

Adrienne had been called motherly while she was still at the lab; the Snubbull had cared for many of the other Pokemon who were even only slightly younger than she was, and she'd been quite adept at doing so. Despite this, however, she could not exactly be called merciful. She was a strong believer in the concept of "tough love", and hadn't been above getting into a little spat every now and again to get somebody to learn a lesson or fall in line. She could have ceased the fighting after the Farfetch'd had started his obnoxious wailing, but, that wouldn't have really done much, would it? If anything, he'd be negatively reinforced by the ceasing of his incoming ass-kicking. No, that simply wouldn't do; the Snubbull was going to keep fighting, despite feeling a little sorry for the bird.
She coughed and blinked a few times, shaking her head as her vision at least got a little less hazy. There was still dirt and dust, but it was a little easier to cope with now, and she bared her teeth threateningly, pushing herself to her feet and curling her lip into a fierce snarl. Avery frowned, wondering whether it'd be a good idea to intervene at this point... To be fair, he didn't think the Snubbull would have listened even if he had told her to stop. He was proven right when she lunged her body at the brown bird yet again in a Tackle, not holding any power back. The ginger sighed and scratched at his neck awkwardly. He supposed this was what battles were about, to be fair... He simply hadn't expected one of the Pokemon to break down sobbing in the midst of one.
Snubbull is still affected by Sand Attack! Snubbull uses Tackle!

Had the Farfetch'd been in any mind to fight back or move, he would have. As the Snubbull's body collided with him final time, he imagined taking the jagged ends of his broken leeks and stabbing them into her eye sockets. Oh no, not once, but twice. Three times. Whether the trainer decided to capture him or not, which he knew at this point was up to the man, the Snubbull was blacklisted. She would be a name written in blood on his shit list. He had always been an angry bird, ever since his mother first hatched him, but normally when he sobbed everything froze. He was used to being pitied, and he really didn't mind it. This fairy-type had reacted to him in all the wrong ways, and now, he knew he couldn't stand her.
He fainted with one final indignant 'squawk'.

The Snubbull somehow knew that things were over as she collided with that bird for the last time, and a part of her felt very pleased about that. Sure, being violent wasn't the best way to handle things, but... Damn, it sure felt good. An, to be fair, he'd probably learned some sort of lesson, right? ... Whether said lesson would stick and actually mean anything was an entirely different thing, of course, but, hey, maybe he'd become less of a jerkface. The Snubbull hauled herself to her paws and coughed and spat up some dust and dirt, muzzle wrinkled in disgust. Fighting on dirt roads was pretty annoying; she'd have much preferred grass to dirt.
Adrienne turned to blink up at Avery, who, at the moment, had a very swollen nose. The ginger was looking at her with the slightest hints of trepidation before offering a little smile and walking over to ruffle the fur on her head gently. "Great job, Adrienne. ... Should we take him with us?" The incredulous look the Fairy Dog gave him was amusing, and told her thoughts of the situation all too well. That Farfetch'd could be left out here for a Houndour to find for all she cared.
"... Well, come on, we should at least move him under a bush or something." Avery obviously cared about the bird's fate more than Adrienne did, and she sighed and dipped her head as if agreeing to this idea. The trainer shrugged and went to pick up the fainted little bird and move him over underneath one of the nearby bushes. At least this way he wouldn't become an unsuspecting meal for some predatory Pokemon (theoretically, at least). Avery straightened himself up, patted as much dust on his coat as he could out, and glanced to the Snubbull.
"... Shall we, Adrienne?"
The Snubbull nodded and, without another word, the two began to set off yet again, keeping their eyes peeled and their ears alert for any sort of disturbances/

A few yards down the road, the dirt path turned into an overgrown briar patch. Obviously that farmers hadn't had time this season to hack the plants down to make travel easier, so the only way to get to the other side was either go through or go around. From within, a cacophony of whimpering grew louder and louder as you approached. Three separate voices cried from within.
Had Adrienne or Avery bothered to take the hard way to explore the source of the sound, they would have found a rather pitiful sight. A mother Mightyena was keeping watch over her two cubs. One was obviously fine, he was standing and moving about in the small opening the resided in. The other, however, was trapped, tangled in thorns and bony vines, unable to move nearly at all. The thorns hadn't managed to harm the pup, but it was apparent that unless it received help it wouldn't be able to free itself. The mother's tongue lolled out, saliva mixed with blood dripping on the dry earth. She had tried to chew her cub free, only to harm herself. She yelped helplessly, licking her pup's cheek.
The other pup lifted its nose and sniffed the air, before suddenly shooting out of the briar patch and down the road. He approached the trainer and Snubbull at a run, skidding to a stop a few yards away. +Hey!+ He called to the Snubbull desperately. +My sister is stuck. Please, come help us!+ With that, he turned tail and ran. He knew little of the stereotypes places on Pokemon such as himself. He hoped that the Snubbull didn't think he was trying to trick them. He simply wanted his sister free.

The initial sight of the briar patch elicited a little groan from Avery. He wasn't too keen on entering that twisted, thorned area for much of anything, though going around was going to be equally terrible. Apprehension settled in at this dilemma, though his pitiful little human ears weren't keen enough to capture the faint sounds coming from said briar patch. Adrienne's ears twitched visibly, however, and the Snubbull paused in her steps, causing Avery to nearly trip over the Fairy-type. The ginger stifled a little yelp as he forced himself to halt, eyes shifting down to stare at his starter Pokemon with notable confusion.
"Adrienne? What's going o--" the sounds of something rustling the briars and headed there way made both of them pause, though, while Avery looked unsettled, Adrienne looked far more worried. When the Poochyena pulled himself free, Avery jumped, slightly startled, though his hazel eyes scanned the Pokemon quickly. He certainly seemed alarmed about something from everything Avery could see. There was a certain urgency in the canine's tone as it barked something out, though Avery himself couldn't understand it. He glanced down at Adrienne to see how she reacted to whatever was said, blinking in surprise at the rather alarmed look that crossed the Snubbull's face. She glanced back at Avery pointedly, and, without saying anything, followed the Poochyena into the mess of brambles.
The man grimaced, but never really considered not going into the mess of thorns. It was going to be cumbersome and obnoxious to navigate, of course, but there was obviously something wrong. The man hurried after his Pokemon, ignoring the sharp twinges of pain as a few of the thorns caught his hand. He was larger, and, as a result, it was a little more difficult for him to navigate without getting shredded up.
He still pressed on, and when he caught sight of the trapped Poochyena and the Mightyena standing nearby, his heart dropped a little. That almost-immobile pup was one of the saddest things he'd seen since coming to the Decona Region. Gritting his teeth and tugging his arm free of some thorns (his coat had torn, shit), he attempted to make his way towards the trapped canine. Adrienne had already meandered her way through, the Snubbull using her arms to attempt to nudge and pry the vines free. Avery frowned, wishing very much that he had some sort of pocket knife. That had been a huge oversight on his part.

When the Snubbull entered the clearing, the mother Mightyena had dropped onto her belly, whimpering and licking her small pup helplessly. Tears swam in her large eyes. She turned her head to look at the Snubbull, not speaking a word. She simply stared at her as she moved to tug at the vines. A more alert look came into her eyes when Avery stumbled into the clearing. She turned her big head, ears flattening, a low growl forming in her throat. +If you hurt my babies, I'll rip your throat out." She hissed quietly. Her free pup licked her cheek in a comforting motion. Her ears swiveled forward in a less menacing way but that growl still filled the air.
She was very unsure of humans. She steered clear of them mostly, for the opted to throw rocks and scream at her when she came around the farms. She was especially unsure of grown male humans. They were normally the most vicious of the breed, heartless creatures who would set up traps that could easily kill her curious pups.
She made no move to harm Avery, something deep in her gut telling her to remain calm. She wiggled backwards a bit, putting room between herself and her pup for Avery to see it a bit better.
The little pup, small even in terms of Poochyena, whimpered quietly at Avery, its wet nose running. It was held flat down on its belly, cheek squashed into the dirt. It parted its mouth just enough to lick at Adrienne as she came near, and when she pulled on the vines she cringed and flinched. It wasn't hurting her, it was mostly just scaring her. She didn't want the sharp thorns to pierce her skin.

The sharp, rumbling growl of the Mightyena didn't need to be translated; Avery understood its meaning all too clearly. He was sure to move with a little more caution as he made his way towards the Snubbull and trapped Poochyena, wincing as a few thorns found their way into that mess of hair. Adrienne was frowning as much as a Snubbull could, not daring to tug at the thorns too much for fear of harming the little pup. She didn't exactly have the grace or dexterity to manage freeing the pup, anyways.
Avery's hands held a little more grace, thankfully, and the trainer shifted to kneel to get closer to the Poocheyna, head ducked uncomfortably underneath of a particularly vicious set of spikes. His brow furrowed in consternation as he murmured a few soothing phrases in French underneath his breath, hand shifting carefully over the Poochyena's small frame as he attempted to find a proper place to begin trying to get her out. Teeth bit faintly at his lip as he frowned, muttering, a little more loudly and hoping the tiny creature understood.
"... Stay still, alright?"
Adrienne's ears flicked, and the Snubbull translated this just in case as Avery began to pry his fingers underneath those vines and tug here and there as gently as he could, trying to see which vines gave and pulled away in an attempt to free the pup. He breathed out quietly, trying to stay calm and hoping that that sense of calmness would somehow translate to the pup as well. The trainer tried to loosen the vines around the pup's head and neck first, figuring that those would serve as the most uncomfortable and troublesome ones.

As the man worked and showed no sign of aggression towards her or her pups, the mother Mightyena finally relaxed, placing her chin on her front paws and waiting. She ran a pink tongue over black lips, trying to clean the blood from her muzzle. Her pup settled down beside her, watching Avery as he worked.
The small pup instantly fell still whenever Avery started tugging at the vines. Luckily, none snagged her flesh. She licked his hand pitifully. After several minutes, her head was free to be raised and swivel around. She licked his arm, whimpering, as he cleared the rest of her body of vines.
She stood, and shook her entire body. Her mother and brother were on her instantly, tails wagging furiously, licking her all over and whimpering loudly. She broke free to run to Avery, jumping up and down, simply begging to be picked up.

The little pup licking his hand brought about a smile as he worked, and he devoted himself completely to the task at hand, promising himself that he wasn't going to give up until the pup was completely freed from that vine-prison. When her head was freed, Avery smiled a little more, hands shifting to work at the rest of that tiny, fragile furry body. Things were going to be alright soon enough. The man finally allowed himself to breathe out as the last of those snagged vines were loosened and pulled away, drawing back slightly as the little canine rose and shook out her grey fur.
He yelped and scooted a little to the side as the other Poochyena and the Mightyena lunged forwards, unable to keep himself from smiling all the wider as the little family was reunited, tails wagging. It was a beautiful sight, all things considered, and for just a few moments, Avery could forget how much was wrong with the world. At a time like this, everything seemed right and perfect. The man scooted and shifted to get a little more comfortable, only to blink in surprise as the saved pup ran over in front of him and began to jump up and down. He stared for a few moments, one brow quirked, before shifting and attempting to gently scoop the little canine up into his arms briefly.
His hands shifted to carefully hold the little pup for a few moments, fingers nestling into that coarse, dark fur. Those hazel eyes of his shifted down to glance the little canine Pokemon over, and he chuckled, offering a warm look.
"You're welcome. Glad to help."

The mother Mightyena had had many pups. She knew what it meant to be able to let go of something you loved. Over time, she had become experienced in heartbreak, for that's what a child's role was- you were given a pup to teach you that you were fragile. A tiny, selfish thing you helped create would tear your heart out over and over again, and you had to let it, because it was your whole world. She watched her pup with the trainer, and a small smile played on her lips. Pups of hers had been captured before, but this was very different. A new outlook on the human race seemed to spread from her ears to her tail, and she approached the man carefully, head low. She offered him one lick on the arm, before turning to her pup. +Do you want to go with them?+ The question was simple, but in it lay a misery only a mother could fathom.
+Oh, yes, yes! Anywhere! Everywhere!+ The pup was practically jittering with excitement in his arms.
The mother turned to the Snubbull. +Have your trainer take her. She is strong and obedient... Thank you both.+ The mother Mightyena turned suddenly, yapping at her other pup, before disappearing into the underbrush. The other pup stared at his sister, before following suite.
+Mother? Mother, aren't you coming too?+ The pup called for her mother. When her mother didn't return, she looked up at Avery, forcing herself to forget about the time she had spent with her mother and brother. She wanted to be his now. Poochyena wants to join you!

As Avery held that fragile, furry body gently in his arms, he thought he saw the faintest glimmer of sadness in the Mightyena's gaze, which filled him with a strange sadness and a curiosity as well. The larger canine approached, and he seemed to prepare to put the little Poochyena pup down, pausing as the Mightyena licked his arm and seemed to speak to her pup. A brow was lofted in curiosity as the Poochyena yapped back, seeming to wriggle excitedly in his arms. The sadness in the Mightyena's voice and posture seemed to pass over the younger creature's head, and Avery began to wonder if he knew what precisely was transpiring. He had a few ideas, but he didn't want to assume anything.
Adrienne had straightened up to watch the bigger canine quietly, and she dipped her head in sudden understanding. +Of course.+ was all the Snubbull said, brow furrowing slightly as the male Poochyena and Mightyena seemed to vanish as quickly as she and her trainer had come upon them. Avery met her gaze, still more than a little confused, seeming to falter at the nod she gave him. Oh. So it was like that.
He glanced back to the pup and offered a smile, feeling a little pang at the little bit of sadness the Poochyena seemed to be feeling as well. Leaving your family was almost never an easy thing. Hell, Avery was thirty, and leaving his father in the Kalos Region had been one of the hardest things he'd had to do in his entire life. The trainer would be glad to have the grey-and-black Pokemon, of course. There seemed to be little doubt that she wanted to join him.
He nestled her a little closer to his chest for a moment, burying his face into that tangled mess of fur and finding its warmth comforting. He scratched the little dog fondly behind the ears and offered a smile, before reaching into his bag and withdrawing a Pokeball, still holding the Poochyena securely in one arm.
"You only have to go into here for a moment or two, alright?"

The little Poochyena wagged her tail happily as Avery buried his face in her fur. She loved the way he smelled, she had never been so close to a human before. When the ball was offered to her, she licked his cheek once more before prodding it with her small nose. With a small yelp, she disappeared in a flash. Other than that, she is a fairly normal puppy, intelligent and loving in most all aspects. Met: Lab @ lvl 5 +You''ll think sweet when she's ripping your throat out later!+ A voice cackled maniacally, but no source could be found. The brush surrounding the trainer and Snubbull shivered, and high-pitched laughter picked up. More branches shook, thorns littering the ground. Of course, the human probably wouldn't have been able to tell the Sudowoodo from the underbrush, but the Snubbull probably could have smelled him easily. +You know what they say about mad dogs- you have to put them down.+ His cackling seemed muffled as he danced around the pair, slipping through the branches and thorns with ease.
The Sudowoodo had a fiery hatred for most four-limbed Pokemon. They had always seemed somewhat less intelligent to him. Those of the bi-pedal nature were always much more civilized, unless you were counting birds. Birds weren't much better than the four legged beasts.

Avery smiled as that Pokeball shook, wasting little time in releasing the Poochyena once she'd been captured. The little canine blinked red-and-yellow eyes as she reappeared, glancing about in wonder as she found herself suddenly back where she'd just been, instead of being... whereever that ball had transported her. Huh. She didn't quite understand the physics behind such a phenomenon, and merely contented herself by tromping back to Avery on those paws that were still a little too big for her, ears pricked and tail wagging. Avery chuckled and stooped down to gently pick up the pup again, allowing her to settle comfortably in his arms while he grazed his hands gently over the Dark-type's spine.
"Mm. You need a name now, don't you?" he mused aloud, brows lofting as the pup lifted her head and fixed him with a curious gaze. He recited names in his head, before realizing something that was amusing. All of his current Pokemon, whether he's unconsciously intended it or not, had A names. ... No use in breaking the pattern now. Hell, having a pattern in spite of the lack of coffee, cigarettes, and structure was more than welcome. The man thought hard for a moment before offering a suggestion he hoped the fanged Pokemon would like.
"How about Ambre?"
The Poochyena seemed pleased as anything by that, wriggling happily in his arms to the point where Avery had to grip onto her just a little tighter. Things were going pretty well.
It was a pity when that cackling voice ruined the cute little moment of affection. Adrienne tensed up, and Ambre stopped her wiggling and waggling, ears pinning back against her skull at the note in the strange Pokemon's voice that could only be described as maniacal. That certainly didn't sound good, and, being surrounded by thorns and brambles wasn't exactly ideal. If something attacked, they might have been in serious trouble. Unless...
Avery was struck by a moment of brilliance, shifting Ambre to one arm momentarily and managing to pull out a Pokeball. If whatever this creature was was as crazy as it sounded, a Pokemon that had at least some chance of fighting in such conditions without too much hazard was probably a good idea. The shiny Duskull materialized in a burst of light and merely hovered, as he always did, unnervingly quiet. The sounds of the underbrush moving didn't escape his notice, and the Ghost-type floated his way towards it without a word, causing a little stutter of protest from Avery. The Duskull took no notice of this.
Avery frowned, glancing over at Adrienne, who was currently bristling quite a bit. She didn't like whatever was talking, and, after a moment, Avery thought that, hey, maybe getting out of the crazy mess of brambles and thorns was a good idea. He gestured to the Snubbull and began to make his way after Ambroise, not wanting to leave the Duskull to whatever he was doing. He only hoped that that Pokemon wouldn't make some move to attack. That would certainly not end too well.

Moving out of the brush was really not in the Sudowoodo's favor. He blended in much better here, and if he became overwhelmed he could probably just freeze and they wouldn't be able to pinpoint him. As the other moves towards the road, he rustled to the edge of the brush, poking out his head and grinning eagerly. +I've got a riddle for all of you.+ He chuckled before speaking again. +Would you like to hear it? It will be really worth your time, I mean, you'll never figure it out...+ He cackled before disappearing once more.
The laughter continued, the sound bouncing off down the road as the Pokemon bobbed back and forth throughout the underbrush. He knew exactly which riddle he was going to throw at this group. He had little faith that any of these individuals could match his obviously superior intellect.
