As Jolene left Buteston and slogged into the foggy marsh beyond, she could hear many things - the chirping of birds, the croaks of Politoed and Froakie... and the insistent, protesting squeaks of her own Pokemon, Denny. | Dedenne | Level 6 Met: Lab @ Level 5 Nickname: Denny Friendship: 6 Gender: Male Ability: Pickup Moves: Tackle, Tail Whip Nature: This Pokemon absorbs information like a sponge. He wants to learn everything there is to know! And he's already quite a smart cookie, too; he can even say some English words, thanks to all the time he's spent around the Lab staff. |
<...I'm telling you, that guy is bad news! We shouldn't let him out of his Pokeball. Not now, not ever. Please!> But alas, Jolene could not understand a single word that he said - and so, against his unheard protests, she released the Sableye from its prison. | Shiny Sableye | Level 5 Met: Buteston Festival of Death @ lvl 5 Nickname: TBD Friendship: 5 Gender: Male Ability: Keen Eye Moves: Leer, Scratch, Foresight Nature: TROLOLO |
"Bly, bly, bly!" he screeched, and Jolene gave him a stern look. He was very loud, wasn't he? If he wasn't careful, he was going to rile up every single Pokemon in this swamp... and he just kept clamoring, as if he intended to do exactly that. The woman, still new to training, was not sure how to handle this. She considered the options, then slowly stooped down so her eyes met the Pokemon's. "...So, what? You just enjoy disturbing my work?" The response she got was a loud "BLY!" - and an affirmative nod. "...heh. I don't care." <What!?> said Denny - only to realize seconds later that the Sableye had said it too. "I said, I don't care. Do whatever you wish; I'll pay no mind. I am not the sort to be provoked by provocateurs." Sableye thought on her words, then... slumped down, as if defeated. If this woman was truly unshakable - if she could not be annoyed or distracted - then everything he loved to do was completely moot. Jo noticed his change of posture, and gave a nod. "Perhaps you know your place. Come along then, 'Topaz'." It was a name she'd chosen on the spur of the moment, but it seemed to fit. Unbeknownst to her, she would be making more than one new friend today.

Name: Adrienne Species: Snubbull Ability: Intimidate or Run Away Gender: Female Level: 5 Friendship: 5 Moveset: Tackle, Scary Face, Tail Whip, Charm Nature: The Snubbull's most notable trait is her extreme protective nature. When she was still at the Lab, much of her time was spent looking after many of the younger Pokemon, even though she herself was little more than a pup. Her surprising maturity has manifested itself in an almost motherly sort of way when it comes to Avery. She's taken one look at the man and decided that it's her job to look after him and make sure he doesn't do anything stupid. She isn't the most keen on fighting, but seems more than willing enough to do so for Avery's sake. Her pushiness, 'tough-love' methods, and overall stubbornness are all bound to cause some sort of trouble, be it with Avery himself or with any future teammates. She only seems to act so harshly because she cares, at least. Met: Lab @ lvl 5 Name: Ambroise Species: Shiny Duskull Ability: Levitate Gender: Male Level: 5 Friendship: 5 Moveset: Leer, Night Shade, Feint Attack Nature: Theoretically, telling how Ambroise is feeling at any given time should be next to impossible. The ghost is either incapable of or unwilling to speak, or, really, make any noise at all, and that skull mask isn't particularly expressive. And yet, there's a certain whimsical quality to the way the Duskull moves, a certain detachment from reality that suggests the spirit is always in some sort of dream state. He's surprisingly affectionate and tends to stick as close as physically possible to Avery at all times, having formed an unspoken bond with the trainer almost immediately, at least on his end. He rarely causes any trouble, and seems to regard Adrienne with little to no care. She doesn't concern him much, and he gives her no real reason to doubt his intentions. The spirit seems to enjoy music, even if it can't create it, and can often be seen making motions that simulate dancing in some way, shape, or form. Met: Buteston Festival of Death @ lvl 5 Name: Aldric Species: Tauros Ability: Intimidate Gender: Male Level:]6 Friendship: 5 Moveset: Tackle, Tail Whip, Rage Nature: Quick to become frustrated, he has the awful temper of most Tauros, paired with quite the superiority complex. He is very proud and vain, unwilling to do anything for another unless he is getting something out of in return. The most positive quality would easily be how loyal he is to those who have proved themselves worthy of it. Met: Denton Fields @ lvl 6 +Whose idea was this again?+ the Tauros snorted irritably with every hoof that sank into the mushy marsh, muzzle curled with only the greatest expression of disdain. Trampling around in this mess was far below him, and Aldric intended to make every living thing in the nearby vicinty (as well as Ambriose) aware of this fact of life. His tails thrashed as one foreleg sank just a few inches deeper than any others previously had, glowering and stamping his free leg as he struggled to pull it from the depths of the marsh. He was sick of all of this, and almost wished he hadn't agreed to follow this trainer around. He'd expected being a trainer's Pokemon to be a little more... well, glorious, to put it lightly.
Avery sighed and scratched at the back of his neck, murmuring sheepishly. "I know it isn't the best stuff to travel in, but... come on, guys, it could be worse. ... At least it's still relatively light out? And not raining? And... well, I suppose I'll be quiet. Wouldn't want to jinx things, right? Heh."
ALdric didn't seem to support his sense of humor and merely stomped onwards, nostrils flaring and tails lashing. Adrienne stared after the Tauros before glancing back at Avery, offering a look that almost emanated sympathy as she shrugged her shoulders. The young bull had proven, perhaps fittingly, very stubborn and headstrong so far. The fact that he didn't listen to her at all was bothersome, but... she hadn't exactly proven she was worthy of his respect yet, she supposed. She'd just have to do that soon before his pride got out of hand.
The Snubbull wasn't too fond of this muck either, but she was, at least, quiet about it, bearing the dirt and grime as well as she could. Even Avery was having some trouble getting through the swamp. As per the usual, the only one completely unperturbed by travel problems was that damned Duskull. Ambroise was hovering very close to Avery as they went along, his robed 'arms' even wrapped around his trainer's neck. That deathly embrace was very cold, and more than discomforting, but Avery sensed that the Duskull was only acting with affection. He'd proven to be as friendly to the trainer as the trainer expected a ghost to be.
All three that were walking paused when they heard the loud noises of a Pokemon, and even Ambroise's forward hovering ceased briefly. Adrienne's ears pinned back, and she growled in irritation at whatever Pokemon was dumb enough to make such a damned racket. Ambroise, as always, made no visible response, and Aldric... Well, the Tauros figured he was going to stomp off and give this loudmouth a piece of his mind. Avery winced and hurried after the Tauros, hoping that he wasn't going to get them all into trouble.
The Tauros caught sign of the Sableye making the noise, and almost looked as if he were prepared to charge, forethought and strategy be damned. Avery, however, caught sight of a distinctly-looking human figure, and decided that no one deserved a Tauros blindly charging out at them. He flailed his arms and reached out to snag the large bull by the mane gently, speaking quietly.
"Hey, come on... He was loud, but... How would you like it if something charged out at you for being too loud, hm? I'm sure he didn't mean anything by it..."
The Tauros snorted unappreciatively at this explanation, though his motions halted and he lowered his head. Avery sighed in relief and smiled a little at the nod he received from the Snubbull, as if she were pleased by his decision. Everything seemed to be going well until Avery noticed the lack of chilliness around his neck. Ambroise was hovering and twirling his way right over to try and cross the woman's path, spinning about and moving as gracefully as the Shiny Duskull always seemed to move. Avery frowned and gestured at the two more tangible Pokemon to follow him as he hurried after the Duskull, not wanting he to be mistaken for a wild Pokemon. That would end quite poorly indeed.
"... Sorry about him. He... likes people, I think." Avery explained as the Duskull meandered his way back to wrapping his ghostly form about Avery's neck, settling down as much as he could. Avery's tone seemed to suggest that liking people was a weird thing for anybody, person or Pokemon, to do. Voluntary social interaction was not on the top of his list when it came to enjoyable pastimes.

Jolene muffled her sigh as the newly-named Sableye went quiet. She hadn't been sure that "you can't bother me" would work - but since it did, she dared not show her relief. Best to wear a poker-face around Topaz.
Then a strange Pokemon hovered into her view; a Duskull - but like her own Sableye, it didn't have the standard coloration. That and its seemingly friendly demeanor quickly brought her to the conclusion that it belonged to someone else - a theory which was quickly confirmed by the arrival of Avery.
"... Sorry about him. He... likes people, I think." ...He said that in such an odd way, as if the concept of liking people was utterly alien to him.
"He definitely seems more friendly than my Sableye," said Jolene with a chuckle. "I'm guessing you got him from the Festival of Death, right? I've never seen a 'shiny' Duskull before." The word 'shiny' seemed to stick in her throat - she honestly hated saying it. It sounded so unscientific. But it was the generally-accepted term.
"Anyway, I'm Dr. Suthers, anthropologist - I'm here to study the development of Decona. And you are?"

Avery continued scratching at the back of his neck as he always did when he was nervous, offering the faintest of smiles. He hadn't woken up this morning expecting to see many other people, let alone interact on a one-to-one basis with any of them. Having such an integral no-interaction part of his daily schedule disrupted was even more jarring than the first few days of going without coffee had been. At least he could cope with the lack of coffee when he was alone. It was much harder to run off mentally crying about being forced to interact with somebody; in fact, it was altogether childish, and Avery wasn't actually going to allow that to happen at all. The man forced himself to perk up and put on a look that he hoped came off as friendly as she spoke, straightening himself up to his full, tall height to look as prim and proper as he could. When you had to think about all of these things rather than doing them automatically, socializing was a pretty tedious task.
"Oh, yeah... Just got him a day or two ago, actually." he clarified, shivering as the Duskull's cold form remained right next to his body. The Festival had been unlike anything he'd ever seen before, though he hadn't felt comfortable sticking around with the sheer amount of people. No, he'd ventured off as quickly as possible. The man blinked before realizing that, hey, he'd never seen a shiny up-close aside from the ones that had been at the Festival, too. "... Same. I imagine most of them like to keep a low profile." Pokemon that looked different seemed to be sought after more than others, after all; he was pretty sure some terrible people would have liked to get their hands on a shiny Pokemon simply for the sake of saying they had one. He'd seen a few shinies in his own line of work back in Lumiose, usually possessed by people in the higher classes of the society. The thought made him grimace a little, and he pushed all thoughts of home away. He didn't need to dwell on the problems that city had.
The man realized a little too late that she'd introduced herself, and that he should probably follow suit. Shit. "Er, Avery. Avery Briggs." he replied, dipping his head before glancing around. "... The Snubbull is Adrienne, the Tauros is Aldric, and this... this guy hanging off of my neck is Ambroise."
Ambroise let go to twirl happily, perhaps in greeting, while Aldric merely snorted derisively towards the trainer and her smaller Pokemon. He didn't have time for this sort of crowd. Hell, the Tauros would have rather been back in the muck. Adrienne rolled her eyes at the larger, impolite Pokemon and stepped forward, dipping her head amicably and smiling as much as a Snubbull could as she glanced from the Dedenne to the Sableye.
+Hey.+

"Ah, nice to meet you, Mr. Briggs," Jolene said with a smile. "And your Pokemon as well. These two are Denny and Topaz." She motioned to the Dedenne and the Sableye respectively. "Ambroise seems ... nice." The words 'in his own unnerving way' lingered on her tongue, but remained unsaid. She watched the Duskull twirl and hover about, bringing itself closer and closer to her. She didn't seem to mind his presence quite so much as Topaz, who spouted a cacophonous "BLY BLY BLY!" and made rude gestures at Ambroise, as if to say 'MY trainer! No touchy!'
Meanwhile Denny ignored the two ghosts and dipped his head in greeting to Adrienne the Snubbull. "Hello!" ... <Oh, sorry. Hello. The Lab guys were trying to teach me English. You're from the Lab too, right? Maybe we've met before ... I can't remember, though. They have lots of Pokemon.> He chuckled softly... <Anyway, your trainer seems kind of... I dunno... aloof. What's his deal?>
