Name: Nathalia Belrose
Nickname(s)/Alias(es): Nora
Age: 19
Gender: Female
Pokemorph?: N/A
Appearance: Nora is a fairly ordinary looking girl; there isn’t really anything about her that truly makes her stand out. At least not in her hometown of Lumiose City, where everyone vies to be the best dressed or most stylish. Standing at 5ft 4’’, a couple of pounds over a healthy weight for someone her size, Nora was lucky not to be taken in by the images of bony models like most of her classmates. Her lightly tanned skin is covered in small moles and freckles dust her nose and cheeks. She has quite a heart-shaped face, with a slightly pointed chin and wide cheekbones with a face that isn’t too unpleasant to look at. A thin nose, which has a slight up-turn to it, is stuck firmly in the middle of her face, along with a deep-set pair of almond-shaped eyes. Oaky-brown in colour and surrounded by thick eye lashes.
A straight mop of dirty blonde hair sits on the top of her head, fairly thick it rests on her shoulders in a stylish cut. Her side-fringe covers her forehead but stays out of her eyes, resting on her slightly arched eyebrows and following them down to the side of her face. Her full, bow-shaped lips, often covered with bright red lipstick, are somewhat stuck in perpetual scowl. She can smile, if it’s absolutely necessary, but it does make her mouth ache. Nora stands up straight and proud, holding herself up to her full height even if that isn’t very tall.
As far as clothing is concerned, Nora tries her best to combine the newest trends of Lumiose City with the practicality needed to travel. Her bag contains a mixture of beaded sweaters and tops with bold prints, denim shorts and tough jeans and water-proof lipstick. Pairs of ankle boots in a couple of different colours and her thick, yellow duffel coat are also stored away in her bag, along with a few over accessories she deemed ‘necessary’. Speaking of bags, hers is a charcoal grey satchel-style bag that has a lot more room than you would first think. Nora does have a tendency of wearing a banana yellow trilby, one of the few fashion trends that she actually enjoyed.
Personality: Nora has a preference for sarcasm. Nothing hurtful or spiteful, but sarcasm suits her. With her sarcasm and scowling expression, it is a perfectly reasonable assumption that she would have rather terrible social skills. Luckily for her, from the age of 15 she has had a job at Friseur Furfrou and dealing with ‘nutcases’ whose very lives revolve around pampering their pooches has given her a decent bedside manner. She can also trim the knottiest, untamed fur into the pharaoh style in under two minutes, but that’s another story.
She is also something of a smart-ass; she picks up on things quite quickly. She probably could have used this to her advantage, and for a while she did. She went through a phase where she yearned to be the top of all her classes but that swiftly ended and she instead chose to use this quality to disrupt and derail her classes as much as she could. Despite her stroppy teenage shell, she actually has very high ambitions. At least that’s what she tells herself, deep down she just wants her parents to tell her they’re proud of her like they told her brothers. The perceived lack of affection that her parents have shown her has made her incredibly bitter, herself unable to truly show others affection and should conversation turn to such things, she feels rather out of her depth.
History: One of Nora’s first memories is of when, aged just 4, she asked her mother what Aldric meant when he said she ‘was a surprise’. Nora was an ‘unexpected bundle of joy that they didn’t really plan but were glad nonetheless.’ Emphasis on the unexpected. Nora was born to a pair of ex-trainers during the summer all those years ago. She was an extraordinarily healthy baby, and to this day she hardly gets ill. But this fact was rather glossed over by her parents, for they already had three children. Aldric, aged 6, and the twins Fabien and Dorian, aged 4. Alphonse and Claudette Belrose had only ever intended to have three children, the fact that they had been saddled with another was extremely annoying.
Nathalia was a very observant child, from a very young age she saw that she was being treated differently from her brothers. Looking back on it, Nora is convinced that her parents resented her for taking up their time. Of course her parents always claimed to love her so she would never be able to prove her theory, but that doesn’t stop her from thinking it. If she were completely honest, she both envied and pitied her brothers. Her parents had mapped out their lives for them, what school they would go to the careers they would have. With Nora everything was rather haphazard ad she was often left to her own devices. While she now knows who she is as a person in comparison to her brothers, she longs to have her parents interested in what she is doing.
For a while, Nora did everything she could to get her parents to love her. She strived to be the best at everything, but no matter how well she did in school the most she ever got was a fleeting, ‘That’s nice dear.’ She realised that nothing she could ever do would get her the attention she wanted, so she let her grades drop and became quite the rebel. But still, that didn’t get her much attention. Nora never really saw what her parents saw in her brothers. In her opinion they’re all rather useless, far too lacking in real life experience. None of her brothers can make their own food, or iron their own clothes. None of her brothers know how to fill out tax return forms. When money got tight, it was she who had the initiative to go out and find a job. In reality, it is probably that quality that stopped her from getting the affection she craved. Nora was always the one who could look after herself, so her parents never felt the need to worry about her.
Nora saved 40% of what she was paid every month and put it into a savings account for herself while the rest went towards the bills. She didn’t really know what she was saving for, but it was never a bad idea to save money. She did this for 4 years, becoming something of a celebrity amongst the Furfrou owners of Lumiose City. She was very talented when it came to Furfrou grooming (not that Nora would ever admit it). But, when Nora had turned 19 and Aldric 25, the eldest son of the Belrose’s went off to Kanto to take the gym challenge over there. And her parents were so proud; Aldric was all they could talk about. When he returned just two months later, they were quite surprised. They had taught him everything they knew, they had done everything they could to set him off on the path to success. So why had he come home without a single badge to his name? Because he couldn’t cope, he had no clue how to look after himself.
Alphonse and Claudette became rather disillusioned after that and Nora saw an opportunity. An opportunity, for revenge. If she could even get one badge, then she would have done better than her precious big brother and her parents would be crushed. She’d show them, she’d show them just what they missed out on. And she wouldn’t go to Kanto, oh no. She’d go further, much, much further. And then they’d realise. And they’d love her. They HAD to love her…
RP Sample: “Anything from the trolley?” Ah, the harmonious shrieking of the air hostess’, Nora thought, ripping the eye mask from her face. She was just managing to get some sleep and then they decided to come along, screeching down the aisles. Nora rubbed her eyes in annoyance, waiting for the unfortunate person who would next try to talk to her. Said person was a young woman who had clearly gone overboard on the fake tan. A mass of bleach blonde hair bobbed into view, a wide smiled planted firmly on her face but before she could start screeching again, Nora’s scowl gave her cause to reconsider.
“Err, anything from the trolley?” The woman asked quietly, her smile wavering a little. Sighing, Nora looked over the assortment of goodies.
“Do you have any milk?” She finally asked.
“Only the little pots we use for coffees.”
“Can I get enough of them to fill a cup and a bar of chocolate please.” Nora muttered, handing over her money. The woman hurriedly handed her the items before quickly moving on. Nora took a moment to be grateful that no one had taken the seat next to her and started pouring the milk pots into the plastic cup she had been given. There was no chance of her getting any sleep now; the babies on the plane were starting to wake up. Just Nora’s luck to get put on a plane with a load of crying tots, in reality it was only one or two; it was a very small plane after all. But that was one or two babies too many for Nora’s liking. Taking small bites of chocolate, Nora gazed out of the window. So far she could only see the ocean but the cry of an excitable child further up the plane told her she was close to her destination. And sure enough, after a few minutes she was able to see her destination. Decona. It looked pleasant enough from up here but then most places did.
“Ladies and gentlemen, this is your captain speaking. We are going to start our descent to the Decona region so put your seatbelts on. I hope you’ve all had a good flight, thank you.”
Nora gulped down the rest of the milk and started sucking a chunk of chocolate. Sitting back into her seat, Nora took another quick look out of the window. Decona Region, I’m coming for you.
